IC INFORMATION
NAME: Ruby Rose
AGE: 15
CANON: RWBY
CANON POINT: End of Volume 2
CANON INFORMATION: ❝ And if we fail, then we'll just be bringing them down with us. We have to put our teammates first, and ourselves second. ❞
PERSONALITY: Ruby Rose is a special girl; everyone tells her so. Her lifelong dream is to follow in her parents' footsteps and become a great Huntress; her eyes are silver, said to be possessed only by legendary warriors; and she's the youngest student to ever attend the prestigious Beacon Academy. The only problem is that, despite having all these amazing things going for her, Ruby would much rather have the spotlight off of herself. When her sister Yang praises her for her accomplishments and calls her "the bee's knees," she famously replies, "I don't wanna be the bee's knees. I don't wanna be any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl, with normal knees."
As someone who describes herself as liking weapons more than people, sometimes showing considerably more excitement toward the expert craftsmanship of a well-made beam rifle than a friend's newest just-as-stunningly-forged-and-sculpted piece of jewelry, Ruby often comes off as socially unaware during first meetings. It's not that she doesn't like other people; she just has a hard time interacting with them sometimes. Being the new kid at Beacon who's several years younger than all of her peers, Ruby initially feels like she doesn't belong, despite clearly having the skills and prowess to cement her early acceptance. She has some rightful concerns about those feelings, though; she admits that her youth causes her to be naive at times, with her honesty and innocence distracting her and letting her be taken advantage of.
Once she figures things out and gets over that initial hurdle, however, a more eager, playful side of Ruby emerges, one who enjoys making and spending time with new friends. With her team—as well as most other teams they meet from other training academies—Ruby is more prone to acting like a normal teenager girl... albeit one with a propensity for blowing things up, both figuratively and literally. Ruby is at her happiest and most comfortable around Weiss, Blake, and Yang; she allows herself to tease them and be teased in return, to have them help her understand things she'd otherwise miss, to comfort them when they're feeling down, and to rely on them when she needs the same kind of support to be shown to her. She also finds comfort and camaraderie in others who are just as bumbling as she is; for instance, she gives words of encouragement on many occasions to fellow unexpected team leader Jaune, and accepts the not-quite-human Penny without hesitation despite the other girl's crisis over her true identity as a robot with a soul.
Despite her occasional silliness and awkwardness, Ruby consistently proves herself to be a natural-born leader. Others take notice of this frequently—from Professor Ozpin declaring her the leader of Team RWBY without hesitation, to the unconditional trust given to her by her teammates, to the acknowledgement of fellow team leaders in making Team RWBY one of the most formidable first-year teams at Beacon. She's very good at formulating strategies in battle with her team, showing a surprising amount of attention to detail while she carefully observes her foes to come up with tactics that play to her friends' strengths and complementary fighting styles. On the other side of the coin, however, is one of her greatest weaknesses: when she's alone, she has a tendency to act more reckless than usual. This is because she doesn't have her teammates to worry about; as long as her friends are safe, she'll do whatever she can to keep it that way.
Ruby's inherent dedication to those close to her stems from her motivation to become a Huntress in the first place. As excitable as she may seem sometimes, she truly does understand the importance of being a Huntress, and the seriousness of their mission. She proclaims that she's always dreamed of being a person who could protect others by fighting for what she believes to be right and just. Her biggest hero is her deceased mother, who died years before the series begins. Despite Summer Rose having passed away when Ruby was just a toddler, Ruby still holds her in extremely high regard. Yang also accounts for the warmth and kindness of Ruby's mother; despite Yang not being Summer's daughter (Yang and Ruby are only paternal half-sisters), Summer still raised and cared for Yang as if she was her own, while also being dedicated to her mission as a Huntress. Ruby is shown to regularly visit her mother's grave and tell her about her life and adventures, hoping to live up to Summer's legacy and make her proud.
All in all, Ruby is a young girl who tries to make the best of her situation. She might unwillingly get into a lot of trouble and deal with a bunch of awkward situations, but with her best friends by her side, nothing is impossible. ... Well, maybe some things still are, but whatever they are, she'll gladly lead her team in hopes of making the world a better place to live in for everybody!
... She totally owns up to how lame that is, but it still sounds at least kind of cool, doesn't it?
ABILITIES: In the world of Remnant, all living things possess an Aura, or a manifestation of their soul. An individual's Aura, when active, acts as a shield that prevents them from being injured, thus allowing students at combat academies like Beacon to spar without fear of being hurt. Aura can be depleted while sustaining damage over time, though; once someone's Aura runs out, the protection it provides against physical damage and injury is lost, to the point where mortal blows may actually kill.
Aura also allows some people to have Semblances, powers which can be seen as an extension of one's Aura. Ruby's Semblance is speed—she can run in short bursts faster than any normal human can, to the point where it can seem like she's teleporting when she uses it. She frequently uses her Semblance in conjunction with her combat abilities, which mostly center around her expertise in scythe-wielding and gun usage. However, she lacks any hand-to-hand experience, usually relying on her Semblance to escape from battle should she be disarmed or otherwise rendered unable to use her weapon.
In addition to the above, which most Huntsmen and Huntresses possess, Ruby has an ability unique to herself, which lies in the silver eyes she inherited from her mother. Her uncle Qrow describes silver-eyed warriors as having formidable strength and powers that even Grimm fear. Ruby herself displays an amazing power after witnessing a close friend's death, completely petrifying a giant dragon. Though the full extent of the power is unknown, Ruby can't use it of her own free will, and won't be able to use it in-game; she's not even aware of it herself from the point she's being taken from. Even if she could, the power exhausts her greatly, to the point where she passed out for a considerable amount of time the first time she used it.
INVENTORY: As far as items go, Ruby has only her gun-scythe Crescent Rose on her, as well as a few spare bottles of Dust for her weapon. She's also bringing along her corgi, Zwei, who can honestly take care of himself in the case that Ruby can't.
MEMORY ALTERATION: Despite the upcoming Vytal Festival, Ruby will think that many of Beacon Academy's teams—Team RWBY included—were assigned to help the offworld efforts on Iniidae; something about the duty of Huntsmen and Huntresses being to help where help is needed. The plan was to launch them in waves (pun not intended), accounting for the staggered arrival of the students.
SAMPLE: Parts one, two, and three!
